Overall: HORRIBLE BOOK TO SCREEN ADAPTATION but decent chick flick if you haven't read the book
2 out of 5 stars
-I am even giving it 2 stars because as a stand alone movie it was good. And the acting was really great
Because this was a book adaptation I will do this review diferently then my past reviews.
Some positives:
I liked the actress chose for Amanda and I thought the aging from the younger self to older self worked well. I also liked the younger actor chose to play Dawson.
Some Negatives:
I thought the actor chosen to play the older Dawson did not fit him, and the aging from the younger actor didn't work. Also, a lot of pieces of the story were changed. So many that I couldn't really enjoy the movie. And there were important pieces left out. I don't want to spoil it, but basically there is no cousin in the book, which was a main part of the movie, and the event that got Dawson in touble was completely different from the book. The ending was also different. THE ENDING OF THE MOVIE SHOULD NOT BE DIFFERENT FROM THE BOOK! I am deeply dissapointed in the adaptation. Now I know they couldn't put everything from the book into the movie, but they could have not changed the main parts of the story like they did, and left out parts that were so crucial to the story.
So in general, I wanted to love this movie.I read the book over a year ago and was excited to see it come to life. But it was a major dissapointment. I couldn't enjoy the movie because so many things were different. I wanted to disregard them but I couldn't because it changed the whole story. I have seen other wonderful Nicholas Sparks books to screen adaptions and so not sure why this one was so bad. If you haven't read the book and want a decent chick flick to watch, go see it. If you have read the book don't go see it because you will just be angry the whole time. For this one the book is way better then the movie.
