Moneyball:
I found myself watching this movie on Wednesday as it was raining outside. This is a movie that I will always love, and frequently watch. I first saw it when it came out at the theater with my brother. I have since seen it on TV several times; it is often one you will find on a cable channel in the middle of a day. And then a few months ago I bought it at the store for $3.
This movie is amazing for so many reasons. First, the story line is so great. Now I must put out a disclaimer before I start raving about it. You must be interested in baseball in order to like this movie. And I mean, really interested in baseball. I showed it to my mom who watched my brother play baseball his whole life, but never really got into major league baseball and she didn't enjoy the movie at all. She claimed it was slow, and boring. So if you don't like baseball, you won't like this movie. But if you do, you will love it. And here is why. As I said, the story line is great. It is based on a true story, about the Oakland Athletics baseball team changing the course of baseball and the industry forever. It is a story of triumph, overcoming the odds, and proving other people wrong. It shows you the power of good ideas and change. This alone is enough reason to watch it. But in addition, the acting is phenomenal. Brad Pitt plays the lead, Billy Beane, who is the manager for the Athletics, and hits the role spot on. He a real firey, hard hitting personality that keeps you intrigued, but also a sensitive, caring side. You get the feeling that Billy's job is him, and without it, he would be lost. And so throughout the movie he clings to it, so tightly, showing us everything that goes into managing a baseball team. We get to see the behind the scenes stuff no other baseball movies have really shown us. And Jonah Hill. Can I just say he is my favorite emerging actor! He has since received other big roles in movies, and is starting to be recognized for his acting ability which he deserves. I still wish he would have won the oscar for best supporting actor in this movie. He did phenomenal. He played a smart recent college grad with an economics degree who impressed Billy from the moment they met each other. He showed us what courage can do, and believing in your ideas and abilities, and the hard thing that is trusting your instinct. He never came off as cocky or a know it all. Rather an impressive young man with the ability to change the course of a baseball team. Now stepping back from the acting, the cinematography is brilliant. The way they weaved in the really important scenes, with soul stripping music and heart warming quotes is really phenomenal. It makes you remember why you love baseball so much. And to finish out my review for the movie,I will leave you with my favorite quote "How can you not be romantic about baseball?"
So overall, AMAZING movie, if you love baseball.
